After more than 20 years working in long-term care as a Therapeutic Recreation Therapist, I have learned that most families do not wait too long to ask for help because they want to—they wait because they simply don't know what resources are available. Unfortunately, many people only begin searching for support when a crisis occurs. By then, emotions are high, decisions feel overwhelming, and options can seem limited.
At Everest Retirement Planners, we believe retirement planning is about much more than investments and income. One of the key pillars of our planning process is Aging Resource Services—helping families prepare for the realities of aging before a crisis arises. As part of that commitment, I am excited to host a Lunch & Learn on June 16th from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. featuring a representative from the Union County Council on Aging*. While the presentation will focus on services available in Union County, many similar programs and resources are available throughout Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Stanly, and surrounding counties.
During this educational session, we will discuss a variety of valuable programs designed to help older adults remain safe, independent, and connected to their communities. Topics will include:

One of the most important lessons I've learned over the years is that the caregiver is often the last person to ask for help. They spend so much time caring for a spouse, parent, sibling, or friend that they neglect their own health and well-being. Knowing what resources exist—and how to access them—can make a tremendous difference for both the caregiver and the loved one receiving care.
This type of planning is one of the many ways Everest Retirement Planners seeks to serve families beyond traditional financial planning. We believe a successful retirement plan should address not only wealth management, tax planning, Social Security, Medicare, and legacy planning, but also the practical realities of aging and caregiving. It is part of what makes our approach unique, and we are proud to provide these resources to our Everest Family.
